  3. How do I use the Youlicit Toolbar and Bookmarklet?

Once you have installed the Firefox Extension or added the browser bookmarklets, simply clicking any of the Youlicit buttons in your browser from any site you are visiting will reveal what Youlicit can do. The button will give you a list of related sites. The button will surf through related sites. The button (registration required) lets you recommend a site to other users, saves the site to your profile and helps us tailor personalized recommendations for you.
    • If you're on a site about practically anything and want to bounce around the web and see more quality sites like it, one click on the Youlicit Next! button () will satisfy your desires.
    • If you're doing research or just surfing and want to see a list of sites similar to the one you're on, click Youlicit More! () and we will take you where you want to go.

  4. How is this different than StumbleUpon and del.icio.us?

StumbleUpon takes you to a series of random recommended sites within a conceptually broad topic space. Youlicit knows your specific context and will return sites that are of extreme relevance and importance to your current interest. StumbleUpon helps you channel-surf the web. Youlicit lets you steer it.
Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking site that allows users to tag and save sites to access later. Although we allow users to save sites under their profiles, Youlicit is not a bookmarking site and makes no such claims. We do utilize social bookmarking data (tags and such) as part of our relevance engine but we are more focused on providing recommendations (for sites and users) than a simple repository for websites saved by each user.
  5. Do I need to register?

To receive personalized recommendations, you are required to register and create an account. For those who have accounts with other services such as Digg/Delicious/StumbleUpon, Youlicit will sync up your accounts and work seamlessly with them. It will also allow you to connect with other users, keep track of what they are recommending and keep a searchable repository of everything you have recommended (across all the services you use on the web)! You are not required to register however, in order to use the Youlicit toolbar or find related and compelling sites to a site you are on. For the lazy folks, you can simply add the Youlicit More! or Youlicit Next! bookmarklets to your Firefox or IE 7.0 bookmarks section.
  6. Does the Youlicit toolbar work only on Firefox?

At the moment, the Youlicit toolbar can only be installed for Firefox and Youlicit has been optimized for the Firefox 2.0 browser. But you can still use Youlicit if you are on IE 7.0. by adding the bookmarklets to your browser. As we continue to improve Youlicit, we will expand to make it accessible on all version of IE, Safari and Opera.
  7. Are there any privacy issues I should be worried about?

Youlicit respects the privacy of its users. We do not have any information about you other than what you provide us. Hence, you are in total and absolute control over the information Youlicit has on you. Please look at our privacy policy for more information.
  8. What does "Youlicit" mean?

    Pronounciation: \yü-'li-sət\.
    Function: noun
Etymology: partially derived from Latin, Medieval Latin elicitus, implicitus, explicitus
    Date: 2007

The word "Youlicit" originates from the idea that the recommendations we provide are directly or indirectly "elicited" from "you", the user. It also has a secondary meaning, that we "implicitly" create a profile of "you" through your "explicit" recommendations.
